The Guilford Art League is hosting an exclusive, limited and free daytime workshop being sent to GAL members first!
What – An Ekphrastic Poetry workshop and presentation for Artists in conjunction with the 77th Guilford Art League’s Juried Show at the Guilford Art Center.
When – MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2025 from 2pm to 4 pm.
Where -The Guilford Art Center Gallery
How – The workshop will begin with a presentation and handout where you will easily learn how to create and express an Ekphrastic poem. The poem format does not use rhyme and this should be considered an easy and creative writing exercise that will help both the writer and the artist “see” and understand more about how the art is seen, not only in a visual way, but in a visceral way, artistically, emotionally, psychologically, cognitively, culturally, sensory.
Artists can choose their own work or the work of others. They can do one poem or several. At the end of the class we will go around and read the poems and discuss the art chosen.
Please bring an iPhone, iPad or something to write with and on. Students will electronically send their poems to be printed. These will be exhibited and read that day at the end of the workshop.
Going forward with this new skill, you will be able to create new works on new art pieces that inspire and motivate your own appreciation, inspiration and creativity in both talking about your own art and the art of others that you enjoy.
Please RSVP to BOTH Sheila (sheila.f.kaczmarek@gmail.com) and Ed (edwardlent@icloud.com) to attend. The workshop is free for GAL members. Do not wait, as seats are limited to a small workshop of only 15 members.
