2021 Annual Juried Show
Our annual juried show in September was a success. Both artists and visitors seemed eager after COVID precluded the 2020 show. We had 222 entries and 105 pieces were exhibited at the Gallery at Guilford Art Center. Karen Wiesner’s On the Way Home (above) received the “Visitors’ Choice” award, and her pastel was one of four pieces that were sold. It was generally agreed that juror Lenny Moskowitz did a great job of selecting work for inclusion in the show. This year for the first time we included photography, which added to the variety and interest of the exhibit. We have put up photos of the prize-winning works on our website together with a few shots of the gallery.
Many thanks again for volunteer help at the show to Claudia Barbee, Marsha Borden, Chris Capezzone, Denise Casey, Marge Casey Nancy Chapman, Anne Coffey, Jim Durkin, Betsey Evarts, Gail Friedland, Linda Giannelli, Denise Hartz, Sheila Kaczmarek, Sandy Kensler, Wendy Kohli, Lillian Levine, Molly McDonald, Tom Mayer, Ava Orphanoudakis, Chris Penry, Diana Perron, Margarita Rodriguez, Patricia and William Seekamp, Nikki Travaglino, Marja Watson, and Karen Wiesner (please forgive us if we’ve forgotten anyone).

Menunkatuck Room Shows
Our quarterly exhibits in the Menunkatuck Room at the Guilford Community Center continue to be appreciated by the many people who use the facility. The community center, in fact, has asked us to extend our shows into the upstairs corridor and stairwell, which gives us more exposure. The show will change on Thursday, December 9, 10 am, so we encourage everyone who would like to exhibit to bring in one or two pieces and to pick up work from the current show at the same time.
We’d like to thank Anne Coffey for her excellent work in organizing these shows for the past few years. Starting next year Sandy Kensler and Joan McPherson will take over the installation of a new show every three months. Of course, we are always grateful for more help; please contact Sheila at sheila.f.kaczmarek@gmail.com if you can help.
2022 Member Show
The Guilford Free Library will once again host our member show next March. This is always a popular event. It will be a themed show again. Details to follow in the new year in our next newsletter.
GAL Website
We are excited to report that Jen Payne of Words by Jen is updating our website. We expect that the revamped version will be online shortly. Check it out at guilfordartleague.org. It will include a list of our members, and if you would like to link your website to the GAL site, please send your info to Denise at dencasey@comcast.net.
Volunteer Opportunities
As always the art league would really appreciate more volunteer help for carrying out our various activities and, most importantly, for planning and initiating new programs.
EXPO 2022
It looks like the Guilford Art Center will once again be holding this popular event on the Guilford Green in July, and the Guilford Art League will be able to showcase members’ works in our own exhibit on the green.
We look forward to seeing you and your artwork in 2022!
