About 20 artists got their hands wet at a papermaking demonstration given by GAL member Chris Penry on Tuesday evening April 17, 2018 at the Guilford Community Center. After showing samples of paper she had made from many different fibers, Chris demonstrated how to “pull” a sheet of paper from a vat of pulp-filled water.
Chris uses no paints or inks to create her beautiful artworks—only colored paper pulp.
Everyone made bookmarks from strings dipped in colored pulp and contributed to two larger joint projects made of different pulps and bits of other papers and fibers—two masterpieces that we hope to raffle off at GAL’s carry-in supper on May 17.
Many thanks to Chris for this engaging demo of an ancient art!
